Craig's KayaK Story

Craig’s Kayak story: Saturday i decided to go kayaking around 1:30 and forgot that we just had our monsoon season. i went to huguenot where it was less rough and the water was higher. Well you know how there is that canoe slide in the middle of the steps that makes it easier to get your canoe up. The water was about 8-10 feet higher than usual so i figured i could just slide down into the water in my kayak..like i do all the time off the rocks..no prob. I was useing my wet bag for the first time and had a sweat shirt, drinks and the rest of my stuff..i left some air in the bag as well so it would float. i put the bag in the front and a lifevest in the back. well i guess that added some weight cause when i went down the slide my kayak kept going and cold ass water came over the boat filling it. boat flipped i got out swimming i had my shoes on and shorts with a belt ,one hand holding the boat the other holding my padel. needless to say being that the water was so high it was also raging down stream. right as this happens about 4 people came to the top of the steps. so they got to watch this idiot swim to the shore and get out covered in mud and debris and my pants sagging reveiling my full moon alls while pulling this kayak out of the water which now weighs 3,000 pounds filled. any way i dumped my boat and got in like normal people do and went out for a long 3 hour beautiful sunny ride......another quick story from a couple days back. one day i was out with brad and he started sinking and it sucked cause we had to keep dumping it. there's a hole a little smaller than a pencil eraser. I have 2 kayaks that look the same the one i always use(mine) and the one bradley was using with the hole in it. I was in a rush to get out cause i didn't have a lot of time and i had a good adventure planned. not realizing i grabbed the kayak with the hole and headed out on my way. the trip was to go out at 42nd street and explore around the dam below hollywood cemetary. i get about half way and realize there's a lot of water in my boat i look back to see if my king kong drawing is there, nope, wrong boat, mother trucker! well, a week earlier, i gave the tape i always kept in my bag to a group in a raft that had popped on a stick. karma works backwards with me i guess. So i thought to myself, honestly, what would mcGuyver do. then it hit me, you know how the plastic cellophane on cigarettes melts...it shrinks and shrivels up like one of my limbs did in the first story...so i took the cellophane and twisted it, put it in the hole burned and pressed both ends and whammo.!..ding di de ding ding ding on the road again… my trip took a turn and i went all the way down the bell islands rapids without a skirt... oh and from the first story my stuff didn't get wet in my new wet bag! ;)

the engines are revving up on the line. the fog clears as the powerfull exhaust creates a gust of wind while sitting idle ready to explode once that flag drops we must have like 30 new songs to work thru. hoping to enlist our buddy's ian and parker. we're talkin about this record sounding a bit rawer... not as crisp as our previous. but it's rad being in a band that has lasted nearly 5 years...we fight and squable just like any family does. but mostly when we get together we have tons of fun and there is almost too much creativity to pin down...one of my favorite new songs is "stuck in the current"
and it is one of those songs that was so easy to capture. brad wrote the riff ,played it for us and within a few practices we where ready to play it live and did at one of our recent shows and we'll most def be rockin it at the taboo's halloween show and maybe on wrir radio wed. the 27th from 7-9pm on our buddy's radio show called activate! which is definitely the best program to listen to, being that, he plays all local and underground music that will be playing shows in RVA thru to the next week. i believe we'll be playing 3 songs and probably a little interview... oh,..back on the recordings... we're planning on recording at craig's house kinda like bad brains did their first record that kinda sound. craig's laundry room has become part of the band so we thought only appropriate to record it there for our 5th year anniversary album, same vibe only 2 years badder ass. hoping and talking with some infamous rva horn players that are no bullshit, and our brother hot damn, kelsey, we hope and pray will lend his amazing mandolin /violin skills to this project too. also, any ladies who would be into singing or dueting with us..or just back up vocals. if you don't feel like you could sound pretty, do not fret, we'd like to find someone with a strong spirit who looks for little adventures like this to try. there is a song that would sound really cool with a girl dueting with craig. also, lookin for a dj, that's into what we do that we could get some scratches and mix it up on the recording or Ryder get your shit together maan. thanks for participating. more updates to come - MiCROjOY JoY boy BaND
